United Methodist Women...we are a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.Membership is open to any woman who indicates her desire to belong and to participate in the global mission of the church through undesignated giving.Dexter Avenue's UMW meets quarterly with a salad luncheon following the Sunday morning worship service. Local projects include making turbans for cancer patients, donating supplies to Nellie Burge Community Center, putting together and delivering Christmas baskets to homebound members, and raising funds for local missions. The emblem of United Methodist Women, the cross and the flame, symbolizes our organization. The cross and the flame are ancient symbols of the church and appear on The United Methodist Church emblem. The cross and the flame remind us of our PURPOSE of growing in our understanding of and willingness to participate in the global ministries of the church.
